The petals blush with red as the blossoms ripen, and they are harvested early in the morning for peak perfume concentration. The delicate flowers are distilled the same day to preserve the precious oils.
Ylang flowers are harvested gently by hand as bruised flowers can result in less than desired notes in the final essence. For a floral oil, Ylang yields abundantly and is one of the rare essences distilled in stages to access the various aromas and potencies of the flower (the timing goes accordingly, Ylang extra is the first hour, Ylang no. 1 is the next 2-3 hours, Ylang no 2 is the next 3-5 hours and Ylang no. 3 is the final 6-7 hours).
