Balsam Amyris is distilled from the branches and twigs made of dense wood with a high oil content that causes the wood to burn brightly. In Haiti where the plant is native the branches are used as torches, hence one of the common names for this tree is Balsam Torchwood.
This oil is truly aromatherapy – one drop bathes in the senses in a light, sweet woody aroma that calms, relaxes, and soothes. Added to perfumes, colognes, and deodorants, the warm aroma can be used as a base note similar to how Sandalwood essential oil is frequently used.
