People often talk about music in terms of visuals but in some ways it seems more closely related to scent—both have the uncanny ability to invisibly trigger intense emotions and long-forgotten memories, opening passageways into the deep recesses of our inner worlds. With this sensory kinship in mind we thought it would be interesting to create a perfume that perfectly accompanies a record. Our friends La Luz have released an album that you can experience with all of your senses. For our Dune Scented Balm—named after their song “Lazy Eyes and Dune”—we collaborated with the band, trying out different elements until we found that magical composition that jumped out and sung in luminous harmony. La Luz’s album is available wherever music is sold and streamed.
Our scented balms are inspired by the flowers themselves: subtle wafts of aroma carried by the wind, inviting an immersive, up-close sniff. A scent is like what animals pick up from each other—it’s earthy and innate, like the handwriting and laugh you were born with. ‘Fragrance’ is what the lady next to you on the plane is wearing that makes your peanuts taste like air freshener.
