Some brands, like eatCleaner, insist their washes can also extend shelf life by as much as five times — thanks to a unique mix of ingredients, including antioxidants and fruit acids.
‘If you see earth, you wash it off,’ says food industry expert Nellie Nichols, former Head of Food at Pret. ‘The biggest issue is you can catch a lot of serious conditions from earth which can be there without being visible.’
